Are you losing your head over Gymnastics?

We at Dancemania understand the drive and dedication required … no, demanded … by gymnastics so we weren’t too shocked to see the following gymnasts apparently lose their heads whilst giving it their all during their routine. But don’t panic, their heads remained connected to their shoulders as all these photos are simply snaps taken at serendipitous moments that provide the viewer with a rather grotesque illusion of decapitation. (Unlike the main photo above which has been photoshopped – honest!)

Here gymnast Katherine Coronel of Venezuela performs her routine during the rhythmic gymnastics competition at the 20th Juegos Deportivos Centroamericanos y del Caribe in Cartagena, in Colombia and she has clearly reverse kicked her head clean off! Nice toe caps.

What is it with these girls? On the left we have Yiming Xiao from China performing in the individual rope final during the 28th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in the city of Patras, southern Greece, on Friday, Sept. 21, 2007. (AP Photo/Thanassis Stavrakis)

But my favourite photo bends the mind – Below Argentina’s Valeria Pereyra is actually lying on the floor and not leaning against the wall as it would first seem. This photo was taken as she competes in the women’s individual apparatus event at the South American Games in Medellin, Colombia, Wednesday, March 24, 2010. (AP Photo/Fernando Vergara)
