Before you read anything more I just want to let you know that the Dancemania servers are not vulnerable to the Heartbleed bug, so your personal information is safe with us. But please don’t assume that your favourite websites are safe from this massive threat to your personal data.
What is the Heartbleed bug?
The Heartbleed bug has been described as one of the biggest security issues to have faced the internet to date, Security expert Brue Schneier described it as “catastrophic”. “On the scale of one to 10, this is an 11.”
The bug exists in a piece of open source software called OpenSSL which is designed to encrypt communications between a user’s computer and a web server, a sort of secret handshake at the beginning of a secure conversation.
Chief technology officer of Co3 Systems Bruce Schneier said: “The Heartbleed bug allows anyone to read the memory of the systems protected by the vulnerable versions of the OpenSSL software. This compromises the secret keys used to identify the service providers and to encrypt the traffic, the name and passwords of the users and the actual content,” he said. “This allows attackers to eavesdrop communications, steal data directly from the services and users and to impersonate services and users,” he added.
Which websites are safe from heartbleed?
Firstly, www.Dancemania.biz cannot be attacked by Heartbleed. Our servers have the latest software updates which are able to defeat Heartbleed.
The best way to find out if a website is safe from Heartbleed is to use one of the newly developed tools to test it. We use https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/index.html; just submit the address of the site you wish to test and it will let you know if the site is at risk. We are satisfied with our score of A minus, it demonstrates how seriously we treat your data security.
