Please support our charity week

Hello! Just to introduce myself first, my name is Zoë and I am the Charity Co-ordinator here at Dancemania. As a business we are always looking for ways to help out with local and national charities and the wonderful work that they do.

Charities we are raising money for…

The first main project that I have organised in our Poole shop is a fundraising week for Cancer Research UK. The fundraising will begin on the 13th December and run until the 19th December. There will be activities to take part in such as a raffle with £30 worth of Dancemania vouchers to be won along with other smaller prizes, “guess the name of the duck” and official Cancer Research merchandise to purchase! If you can make it down to our store during this week please come and join in the fun and see the staff in some silly outfits!

Alongside this I have also organised a fundraising game in aid of The Round Table Children’s Wish who grant the wishes of terminally ill children. I chose this charity along with Cancer Research UK, to be the first to benefit from our fundraising projects, in honour of a friend of mine Ellaline Vincent who sadly passed away in August 2007 after a tragic battle against cancer.  This way we can help to contribute towards stopping this awful disease and help grant wishes to those are not so fortunate.  Just a little bit of money goes a long way.

The Game

The game is called “Make a wish to make wishes come true” and consists of some very easy to follow rules…

1. Choose something in our Poole shop that you REALLY want but can’t necessarily afford this side of Christmas.
2. Write it down on a piece of coloured paper provided in the shop along with your name and contact number.
3. Then pass it to one of our lovely staff members along with £1 per wish and we will attach it to our colourful paper chain displayed in the shop.
4. Then on the 16th December all the paper links will be taken down and placed into a pot from where a winner will be drawn and that person will receive the item that they wished for in the shop! Holly White wins Dancemania’s make a wish comp.

Giving a little…

If you live locally to our shop and can make it down before the 16th December bring your £1 and place a wish! All the money raised from this will go directly to ‘Round Table Children’s Wish’. As will the money raised from our Cancer research week, all monies raised will go directly to Cancer Research UK.

On this occasion I have chosen these charities to raise money for, but keep an eye out for more events coming in the New Year where we will raise money for other well deserving charities too!

– thank you.

Charity Week Update

The Charity week was a success which helped raise money for Cancer Research UK and Round Table Children’s wish.  We had lots of donations and some very lucky winners on the day of the draw!

Please see our video where Sophie fills you in on what happened:

Money Raised

Cancer Research UK : £114

Round Table Children’s Wish: £53

We were also very lucky to have a visit from Eleanor Storey, a representative from Round Table Children’s Wish. Eleanor was kind enough to draw the winner of our ‘Make a wish to make wishes come true’ competition. The lucky winner was Holly White who is thrilled to have won her wish.
There were other lucky winners including ‘Name the Duck’ where the winning name was Jonathan and the winner of the raffle, who will be coming into the store soon in the new year to choose something they would like! Congratulations to all of them!

I would also like to say a huge Thank you to everyone who has supported and donated to these two amazing charities. A little bit of money goes a long way and with your kindness you have brought someone happiness. If you would like to continue to support these charities please follow to links below where you can make further donations. Watch this space for more Dancemania fundraising events coming up in the new year!

What a great idea and for some very worthy causes. It’s lovely to remember Ellaline especially at this time of year when we miss those who are not with us all the more. And what better way to remember what a bubbly dancer and happy performer she was than by making a wish in a dance shop!
