A recent study added to the growing evidence that stimulating the mind by dancing can help to prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Dancing also increases cognitive acuity at all ages.
Scientists led by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City recently compared various types of activities and compared how much they reduced the risk of dementia. Here’s what they found:
Reading– 35% reduced risk of dementia
Bicycling and swimming – 0% reduced risk of dementia
Doing crossword puzzles at least four days a week – 47% reduced risk of dementia
Playing golf – 0% reduced risk of dementia
Dancing frequently – 76%. That was the greatest risk reduction of any activity studied, cognitive or physical!
